To celebrate the 50 years since the automotive cult-cop movie Bullitt, Ford has announced that it has commenced taking orders for their new 2019 Mustang Bullitt. This car isn't just some badges, celeb endorsements, and a Highland Green paint job. In fact, they've removed most of the badging and included some hard performance elements to make this a very special Mustang.
The Bullitt isn't just a show piece. The exterior and interior styling of the car are all there to pay tribute to a machine once masterfully thrashed through San Fran by Steve McQueen. Though non-functional, a Bullitt branded fuel cap is in the centre of the rear and most of the modern Mustang badging has been removed to maintain a low profile like the original car. The theme is carried through to the interior, which features green stitched seats, console and door panels, and the classic cue-ball gear stick.
After being the surprise reveal at the Detroit motorshow, hosted by Steve McQueen's Granddaughter, the automotive areas of the internet went into meltdown to get more information about this secretive mustang. Even though no production numbers had been confirmed or production dates, the phone’s of Ford dealers started ringing off the hook. “Since its introduction earlier this year,” explains Ford’s Corey Holter, “Ford dealers have been fielding calls from customers wanting to know when they can order this unique piece of automotive history.”
This Bullitt homage goes on sale this summer for $46,959 plus a $900 delivery fee.
